Apprenticeship as an IT Specialist for Application Development | Testimonial by Felix
“I didn’t want simply theory. I wanted direct practical experience.”
After the intermediate secondary school, it was clear to me: I wanted to do something practical and dive headlong into the world of IT. I had always found programming interesting and hence wanted to specialise in instead of sitting in college for years. My brother had taken the same path, and his positive feedback encouraged me.
Würth Industrie Service was the first choice for me: popular in the region and quite reputed for its apprenticeships. After a voluntary internship in the holidays, it was evident: This suits me perfectly! So, I applied for the programme and it worked out immediately.
My daily routine is quite diverse. I work in the Logistics module of the SAP development team. We are responsible for processes like goods receipt and goods issue. I handle my tasks using a ticketing system: resolving errors, optimising existing processes and developing new features. For this, I work closely with SAP Consulting – they bring in the process knowledge, and I implement the technical aspects.
What I find especially interesting: Even though it is just programming, there is an enormous variety. Every task is different and every solution demands a new approach. Hence, I keep learning constantly.
My team is open, communicative and helpful. We work in a shared desk setup, exchange a lot of ideas, and maintain a relaxed atmosphere without compromising our productivity. My trainers are experts in the subject matter, who take time to explain concepts. They teach not only the “how”, but also the “why”. This makes the apprenticeship truly worthwhile.
There are a lot of fun experiences, like our team events, summer tour and outdoor days. Our work on the new SAP version is exciting, which allowed me to work with new technology and test cool features.
Gamechanger as an apprentice – is that right? In Felix’s case, definitely. He always knew what he wanted: Done with school, apprenticeship at Würth Industrie Service, vocational diploma, degree course – and then transform the world of IT. Gamechanger with a plan.
