My journey at Würth Industrie Service began in 2004 with a dual study programme in Business Informatics. During my studies, I had already been introduced to the division KMS development and this was where I was taken on as a full-time employee. I am still a part of this team as a software developer.
I have two children of ages 6 and 9 years respectively. Currently, I am working part-time and have been gradually increasing my working hours over the past few years. Currently, I work 24 hours per week.
In 2013, I moved to Erlangen and am thankful that the company offered me the option of working from home for three days. Currently, I work mainly from home, which allows me to continue working in my previous field of work while also being able to manage my family routine despite the long distance from Bad Mergentheim.
In KMS development in Logistics (KMS stands for Kanban Management System – our internally developed ERP system), we look after the IT aspect of our Logistics processes. Every team member is responsible for different tasks or areas of Logistics. For instance, I oversee all the processes in our weighing station, and using the KMS applications programmed by me, I ensure that the goods are repackaged according to the customer requirement.
In this process, I work closely with the colleagues from Consulting as well as the users from Logistics. Therefore, any new developments require a lot of coordination, testing and support. This makes the daily work diverse, and productive collaboration with colleagues helps in developing new ideas.
In our team, good interaction is important. I do not get to spend much time with my teammates now due to remote work, but we take a virtual coffee break once every fortnight, have a department meeting twice a month and iteration planning once a month – so there are some regular meetings where we all see each other. Even outside of these meetings, I maintain contact with the colleagues from my team and other specialist departments.
When you have young children, the daily routine keeps changing and sometimes the day needs to be spent differently than the original plan.
I appreciate that I can work flexibly and we support each other within the team. If I cannot work when a child is ill, my colleagues understand and offer support. I can rely on everyone!
Besides, I fondly think about the team picnics, team lunches or dinners and the many holidays that I used to spend with my teammates. That creates a strong bond – and is one of the reasons why we function so well as a team.
