.NET Developer – Material Flow | Testimonial by Benedikt
“Sometimes you just stumble into things with an open mind.”
In 2015, I started a dual study programme in Applied computer science at Würth Industrie Service. I am currently working in software development – with a focus on logistics systems. My specialisation lies in the development of material flow software that controls the interface between our ERP system and hardware. In short: I ensure that the logistics operations keep moving smoothly.
Since 2018, I have also been working as a trainer. I support our apprentices and dual-study students throughout their training by sharing knowledge, correcting their reports and theses and support them in project work. Our training is practice-oriented, varied and offers many opportunities to try out things - including making mistakes that you are allowed to learn from.
I develop software that interacts directly with logistics operations - from controlling automated warehouses through to communication with hardware components. In doing so, I work closely with various departments and colleagues to ensure that our processes on smoothly.
One particular highlight was contributing to the development of the iDISPLAY prototype in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute. Projects like these show how quickly you can take on responsibility with us - immediately after completing my apprenticeship, I was involved in commissioning a new bin conveyor system and played a key role in the development and adaptation of the software.
There is an open culture around mistakes within my team - and that is a good thing. Mistakes are not taboo here; they are an opportunity to learn. Particularly during training, it is important to try things out for yourself, even when something occasionally goes wrong. I support our apprentices, provide inspiration and ideas, but not readymade solutions. That is how understanding develops.
We work closely together, support one another and benefit from each other - especially from the fresh ideas of our young talents. Apprentices bring new ways of thinking that help drive our IT forward.
What I find particularly exciting is presenting complex IT processes in a clear and understandable way - for example, visually on an A0 poster. When someone suddenly understands a topic because it becomes tangible, that is a real added value for me. I know our apprentices well and understand how they think. That allows me to prepare content individually and in a way that is easy to understand - not through lectures, but through impulses that encourage people to think for themselves.
When Benedikt takes on a task, it is anything but superficial. He wants to understand it in depth, experience it himself and master it. He is a deep diver among our gamechangers. With him, things become intensive, technical and innovative - including when it comes to training young talent.
