Psychology was my first choice of profession – bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, then four years of job experience. But one day, I realised that I needed a change – something new with a future. IT had always been fascinating for me. So I took a chance and started fresh at the age of 29.
Dual study programme in Business Informatics ? When you think about it, it seems like an extreme upheaval – which it really was! But Würth Industrie Service made my entry easy. Friendly atmosphere, real appreciation and complete support even in difficult times. Today, I am a part of the team responsible for the sales processes in our Kanban Management System. I like that I spend my time not just writing codes, but also developing real solutions. In hindsight? The right decision!
Together with my colleagues, I ensure that our in-house ERP system, the KMS, keeps getting smarter. We are the contact persons when errors arise, we find solutions and implement change requests – from the first idea and programming to the solution. And the best part? We are completely flexible. In KMS, we can release new versions daily, fix errors and roll out features super quick.
My favourite topic: Usability & user experience! My background as a psychologist and an art therapist helps me create systems that are not just functional, but also intuitive and comfortable to use. Colours, design, human-technology interaction – all these factors shape the user experience of a software. What use is the best feature if no one wants to use it because it is confusing? This is where I come into picture.
In my additional work as a trainer, I can share my knowledge – a cool mix of technology and social skills.
Coding isn’t the only thing we do – we laugh as well!The friendly atmosphere was the main reason why I wanted to stay with the company even after completing the dual study programme. Flat hierarchies, open access and real friendships – no matter whether in KMS Sales, KMS Logistics or beyond. Everything related to KMS comes from us. Resolving errors, developing new features, optimising processes – we ensure that everything works. My rotations in different departments during the studies gave me a lot of insights and showed me the value of interaction with other teams.
If someone would have said to me four years ago that I would end up working as a software developer, I would have laughed. The transition from social sciences to IT was difficult in the beginning: Terms like “Framework” or “Web-API” were foreign to me, and my biggest project – an interactive map for logistics service providers – was a big question mark.
But this is exactly what my work is all about: The moment, when it clicks and everything works. Every code that works. Every problem that is solved. And not to forget, my bachelor’s degree that I had considered impossible in the beginning!
